The Ahwahnee
Yosemite National Park

  • Northern California

Designed by Gilbert Stanley Underwood and completed in 1927, the Ahwahnee Hotel epitomizes National Park Service rustic architecture. Located in the Yosemite Valley, it is a National Historic Landmark and one of America’s iconic lodges. ARG has worked with the NPS and concessionaire, Delaware North Companies, on a series of improvements that are compatible with the building’s historic character. Projects include restoration of the historic slate roof, design of a new ice melt roof system to address ice build-up, design and installation of new fire and life safety systems throughout the building, stabilization of the kitchen floor, and rehabilitation of the entry walkway and wood fence. ARG also redesigned select hotel rooms for ADA compliance, carried out interior design improvements to 24 cottages, and assisted with environmental compliance review.
