SurveyLA Pilot Survey: Boyle Heights

  • Southern California

SurveyLA is the first comprehensive historic resource survey being undertaken by the City of Los Angeles. Led by the Office of Historic Resources (OHR), SurveyLA will provide documentation of the historic resources throughout the city. The Boyle Heights district was one of the sites chosen for the SurveyLA Pilot program. Historically, Boyle Heights was one of the most ethnically-diverse neighborhoods in the city and the area’s building stock represents that heritage and includes resources dating from the late nineteenth century. SurveyLA uses GIS-based software on tablet PCs, which enables surveyors to record potentially-eligible resources digitally in the field. As prime consultant, ARG teamed with Christopher A. Joseph & Associates and worked closely with OHR to develop and improve the software and survey methodology while surveying an area of nearly 9,000 parcels.
