Santa Barbara Historic Airport Terminal
- Southern California
Designed by the local firm of Edwards & Plunkett, the Santa Barbara Airport Terminal was completed in 1942 in a spare Spanish Colonial Revival style. ARG is completing the rehabilitation with the goal of bringing back the terminal’s original footprint and character-defining features such as the control tower and the open air observation deck. Inappropriate additions will be removed, and the wood frame structure will be relocated adjacent to a recently completed addition with a connecting courtyard. The project includes includes restoring the original observation deck on the second floor, adding new accessible public restrooms, as well as offices. Construction completion is anticipated in early 2013. Previous work included the preparation of an Historic Structure Report (HSR) and Historic American Building Survey (HABS) documentation in anticipation of the proposed airport expansion.
