San Francisco Swedenborgian Church: Historic Structures Report
- Northern California
The San Francisco Swedenborgian Church includes a Sanctuary, Parish House, Parsonage and associated gardens. The 1895 Sanctuary building is associated with its first pastor, Swedenborgian Transcendentalist theologian Joseph Worcester. The complex is the product of some of the Bay Area’s most significant Arts & Crafts architects, artists and craftsmen. In 2001 ARG prepared a successful National Historic Landmark nomination. In 2011 ARG completed a Historic Structures Report (HSR) to document the complex and its significant collections and to outline future repair and development options. The report included an assessment of the architectural features, structural systems and building systems of the complex. Recommendations were made for repair, conservation, and structural stabilization of the buildings and site wall, and for managing collections housed in the Sanctuary and Parish House.
