San Francisco General Hospital
- Northern California
To mitigate potential impacts of the construction of a new hospital on the San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) campus, ARG completed a Conditions Assessment and Maintenance Program for the San Francisco General Hospital Historic District.
SFGH began as a county hospital, and by the 1920s, it was a fully developed campus operating several hospitals, wards and clinics. Today the Historic District comprises five buildings and four ancillary structures completed ca. 1915, and one building constructed in 1938. ARG carried out a ground-level visual survey to evaluate the condition of historic brick, terra cotta and cast stone masonry; wood and steel windows; copper cladding and clay tile roofing; as well as landscape walls and fences. ARG produced a Maintenance Program that included a prioritized maintenance and inspection schedule and a Maintenance Manual.
