Sacramento Railroad Museum

  • Northern California

Dating to the 1860s, the eight remaining industrial brick buildings that comprise the Sacramento Railyards Central Shops National Register Historic District represent one of the West’s most historically significant sites. The district’s two largest buildings, the Boiler Shop and the Erecting Shop, are slated to become the new Railroad Technology Museum, part of the State Railroad Museum. Working with California Dept. of Parks and Recreation, and developer Thomas Enterprises, ARG carried out a feasibility study and programming analysis in collaboration with West Office Exhibition Design for 150,000 sq. ft of museum space within the two historic buildings. Further scope of work involves hazardous materials abatement, exterior repair and conservation, structural seismic upgrades, new systems, and architectural core and shell work for museum tenant improvement and exhibition design projects.
