Presidio of San Francisco: Water Treatment Plant

  • Northern California

The Water Treatment Plant at Baker Beach has supplied water to the Presidio of San Francisco since 1910. Four of the facilities’ existing buildings and the one-million gallon capacity clearwell are historically significant and contribute to the National Historic Landmark designation. ARG provided full architectural services for rehabilitation and compliance with current water treatment regulations. ARG was involved from schematic design through construction documents, cost estimates, and construction administration. The project included seismic improvement of existing structures, ground modification to improve seismic performance, redesign of the water treatment process, and rehabilitation of interior and exterior spaces. ARG’s design solutions preserved the structures’ historic integrity while meeting current water treatment requirements.
