Oregon State Parks Survey

  • Pacific Northwest

For a Resource Survey and Context Statement of the Oregon State Parks, ARG was contracted by the Oregon State Parks & Recreation Dept. Types of historic resources in the parks vary immensely and include bridges, lighthouses, recreational structures, early settlement/farming resources, scenic corridors, roadside rest stops, and waysides. ARG developed a Context Statement that defines the major, broad historical themes of park system development, which are: maritime history, engineering, Civilian Conservation Corps construction, park and landscape architecture, and ethnic groups. The Context Statement includes a historical overview and a framework for evaluating historic resources. ARG made site visits to individual parks and completed State of Oregon inventory forms focusing on condition and safety level of each resource, historic significance, and National Register eligibility.
