Oregon State Hospital
- Pacific Northwest
The Oregon State Hospital opened in 1883 and is one of the oldest mental health institutions on the West Coast. The entire hospital site includes more than 70 buildings and structures built between 1883 and 1958. The site is a listed National Register of Historic Places Historic District. ARG served as consultant to the design team, HOK and SRG Partnership, providing historical research, building evaluations and leading the team through the review process. ARG documented the site using large format photography consistent with the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) standards. Other phases include Design Guidelines to assist the City of Salem and the Oregon Department of Human Services in evaluating future work, exterior conservation for the main hospital, the J Building, and full architectural and restoration services throughout the site.
