NASA/Ames Moffett Field
Shenandoah Plaza Historic District

  • Northern California

In 1994, the former US Naval Air Station at Moffett Field was decommissioned and has subsequently been used by NASA Ames as a research center. The site’s historic core is comprised of five structures surrounding the National Register-listed Shenandoah Plaza National Historic District. These structures consist of an administration building, two barracks buildings, an auditorium, and a hospital in the Spanish Colonial Revival style. To preserve the historic architectural integrity of the former military base and to comply with The Secretary of Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation, the client, NASA Ames, retained ARG to prepare Design Guidelines to assist NASA professional staff, tenants and their consultants with future rehabilitation.
