Glen Oaks Ranch BarnStabilization and Seismic Strengthening
- Northern California
ARG completed a stabilization and seismic strengthening design for the Glen Oaks Ranch Barn, a stone walled horse barn dating to 1868. Located in Glen Ellen, it is a contributor to the Glen Oaks Ranch District as listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In 2004, ARG provided stabilization and rehabilitation recommendations for the historic structures on the ranch property. The barn stabilization and seismic strengthening project is one of those recommendations. In collaboration with Degenkolb Engineers, ARG developed project solutions including repointing and inter-wythe pinning of the stone walls, installation of both a concrete bond beam and horizontal steel truss structure at the top of the stone walls, and new roof diaphragm sheathing. The project also included the installation of a new roof and design of screen closures for all exterior openings for weatherization.
