Fort Ord
East Garrison

  • Northern California

Formally deactivated in 1994, Fort Ord's East Garrison consists of over 75 historic buildings and structures. The site's proposed adaptive reuse of historic buildings as artist and community spaces is underway. ARG completed a historic resource assessment of the East Garrison, evaluating resources for National Register of Historic Places and California Register of Historical Resources eligibility as a historic district. To facilitate the rehabilitation of the historic concrete buildings, ARG prepared: Guidelines for Rehabilitating Buildings at the East Garrison; the East Garrison Preservation Plan; HABS documentation; the Mothball Plan, for Fort Ord, East Garrison, and an East Garrison oral history project. ARG remains involved at the site conducting on-going construction monitoring.
