Figueroa Corridor Historic Context Report

  • Southern California

The Figueroa Corridor Streetscape Design for Linking South LA to Downtown initiative is a streetscape beautification project sponsored by the Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Los Angeles (CRA/LA). The project focuses on transit-oriented development on one of the city's oldest corridors. ARG was part of a team that included landscape architects, architects, civil engineers, public art consultants, transportation consultants, and lighting engineers, among others. ARG produced a historic context outlining the evolution of Figueroa Street, which informed the project team about the historic character and use of the corridor. Accompanying maps (generated by ARG using Geographic Information Systems) and photographs were used to present the changing use and character of the Figueroa Corridor. ARG presented the findings of the historic context report at two public workshops.
