Yosemite National Park: East Valley Site Study
- Northern California
A jewel of the National Park System, Yosemite Valley is the park’s principal visitor destination. The Valley’s comprehensive management document, the Final Yosemite Valley Plan (YVP), was released in 2002. ARG was retained by the National Park Service (NPS) to prepare the East Valley Site Study to develop detailed design criteria and an implementation schedule for more than 38 projects defined in the YVP. Strict constraints for protecting the valley’s natural and cultural resources had to be balanced with management goals for enriching the visitor experience. In collaboration with NPS and the concessionaire, ARG led a consultant team which augmented YVP findings to develop a comprehensive plan for the East Valley, including Curry Village, with specific conceptual designs and a 20-year schedule for project implementation.
