Curry Village Employee Housing
- Northern California
Located at the eastern end of Yosemite Valley, Curry Village dates to 1899 and is a National Register Historic District. ARG designed new employee housing on a wooded, undeveloped site adjacent to the historic district. The new structures are compatibly designed with the distinctive building siting, scale, and materials of the existing buildings in Curry Village. A significant focus of the design strategy was conservation of the site’s natural resources. Led by ARG, the design team created three preliminary approaches, with NPS selecting a scheme of 22 two-story housing structures and 4 two-story common buildings, a wellness center, and parking. All residences were designed to achieve superior access to natural light and ventilation. The project integrated numerous energy efficient features and sustainable building materials.
