Culinary Institute of America: Still House

Originally the distillery of the former Christian Brother’s winery, the historic Still House was rehabilitated and adaptively reused as a wine education center for the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). The new facility includes a soaring two-story entrance lobby, two state-of-the-art wine tasting classrooms, and a kitchen for food preparation. A new below-grade wine cellar was constructed into the adjacent hillside. The rehabilitation retained the auxiliary nature of the building while the larger historic Greystone Cellars building continues to serve as the primary site facility. ARG served as Architect of Record in designing the new wine education facility within the historic Still House. The rehabilitation also included seismic strengthening and integration of new systems within the building.
