Carmel-by-the-Sea Historic Context Statement Update
- Northern California
ARG worked with the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea to update the City’s existing Historic Context Statement to incorporate the period between 1940 and 1965. During this 25-year period, Carmel saw the construction of many new buildings in the Modernist Style.
Established in 1902 as a utopian artist community, the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea was greatly influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement coupled with an appreciation of the surrounding natural environment. By 1940, the village was known world-wide for its unique storybook style buildings.
