Topic: Architectural Ceramics: Terra Cotta Glaze and Bisque Spall Repairs Workshop

This talk focuses on techniques and materials currently used in repairing architectural terra cotta glaze spalls and bisque spalls. Recent repair projects on terra cotta buildings in San Francisco will be reviewed as a basis for evaluating the performance of products such as restoration mortar patches, shallow fill materials, and coatings. The presenters will discuss a range of criteria for selecting and specifying materials and systems, including factors related to the moisture level/condition of the substrate, construction costs, lead times, construction scheduling and long-term maintenance costs, as well as waterproofing strategies for vulnerable elements such as parapets and projections.
